The Hip Hop Week in Review

Lets be honest, hip hop is a fast moving business these days, and if you blink you could miss a game changing verse or a new single everyone will be banging and not even know it. Don't worry hip hop fans, the Beat is here for you. Each Friday I will review the week (or so) gone by in the hip hop universe to make sure you hip hop heads stay up to speed. This has been one of the most hectic and exciting week in the rap game probably in years and if you missed any of it, don't make the same mistake twice. Now lets get you caught up.

Kendrick Takes "Control"

If you missed this one, you must have been hiding under a rock much like the rappers who heard their names mentioned in one of the biggest verses that rap has seen in years. And it came form the new king of the west coast, Kendrick Lamar. We have never heard Kendrick spit like this with so much angst and anger and it seems he is coming for everyone in the game and he is naming names. Many rappers tried to send responses toward the young MC mainly because of him proclaiming himself as "the king of New York". You know, because hes from Cali. Now most of these attempts fell well short (looking at you B.O.B) while some were solid but couldn't live up to the quality of Kendrick's bars (see Joell Ortiz) but one man rose to the challenge and gave K-Dot a run for his money. Joe Budden. Budden rode hard for his city over the control beat with 5 and a half minutes of death aimed at Kendrick as well as A$AP Rocky and Meek Mill. Budden defended his territory and while I doubt we will hear anther response from Kendrick at least showed that Kendrick wasn't the only one with quality bars aimed at the competition's head. It looks like the competition may be back in the rap game, and for that we have one man to thank. Thank you Kendrick, we shall never again kill your crazy competitive vibe.

Nothing Was The Same On September 24th

Drake's highly anticipated album "Nothing Was The Same" is most rap fans' pick as the album of the year, and they haven't even heard it yet. That's how huge Drake is doing things nowadays. The hype will have to build for a little longer as the album will be pushed back to September 24th. The project is still very much a mystery with no track list out and no conformation as to which singles will make the cut for the final album tracks. Drake took the game by the throat with his sophomore project and has a chance to prove that he will be the next king of the rap game and the world is watching and waiting for his next move with great tension. Drake nailed it with the title, because if his album is as spectacular as we all expect, he will have the rap game in a choke-hold and indeed, nothing will be the same after September 24th.

Looks Like The Feds Were Watchin'

Good thing 2 Chainz was fresh as hell, because it looks like he was being watched by the feds. Tity Boi was arrested this week after police pulled over his tour bus (he's currently on the AMW tour with T.I. an Lil Wayne) and claimed that they smelled marijuana. Chainz and crew refused to let the cops search the bus and they later came back with a warrant and not only searched the bus, but put the duffel bag boy himself in handcuffs. The dope peddler took to twitter the other day saying his bus gets pulled over in every city by police claiming to smell weed. We've heard the same things happen to other rappers such as Wayne and Waka Flocka so I tend to believe Chainz when he says that. Taheed is clearly a target wherever he goes and cops will take any chance they can get to bust him even if they have to lie about smelling weed coming from the bus. How can you smell marijuana as a bus passes you on the highway? That's crazy talk. The official charge against Chainz was "interfering with police process". I wouldn't expect that charge to stick and sounds like someone had it out for him from the moment he rolled into the city. I think I speak for everyone when I say we needs Chainz out her spittin' bars, not sittin' behind bars. FREE TITY BOI!
