Blast from the past and dancing is how you could describe the 2013 VMA Awards

Last night in Brooklyn, New York at the Barclay Center the 2013 VMA's were held for some of the biggest names in the music business. The show started with the return of Lady Gaga who has been low key of late as the crowd was going wild. She performed her new song applause off her upcoming album Art Pop which is slated to be release Nov 11.

But this is was only the beginning the night was taking over by the smooth pop star JT as he put on an 15 minute melody of some of his biggest songs of his career also reuniting for the first time in years his former bandmates NSYNC.

Fans also witness an huge night of Hip-Hop with Kanye West performing one of his singles off his lastest album Yeezus Blood on the leaves. Drake also took the song performing his single off his upcoming album Nothing was the same Hold on were coming home and Started from the bottom. Overall both perfomances was very short but entertaining from two of the biggest names in Hip-Hop Music.

Best Hip-Hop Video went to Mackelmore&Ryan Lewis featuring Ray Dalton, Cant Hold us and all together they took home 3 moonman last night. But nothing tops off former Disney star Miley Cyrus from the show Hannah Montona. She performed twice taking stage with Robin Thicke with hardly any clothing on dancing low to the ground known as twerking. This performace has been buzzing on all media outlets leaving fans wondering who is this young lady these days.

Top 10 Hip-Hop Countdown - Week of 8/25 - 9/1

A much more calmer week this week in the hip-hop world no jaw dropping verses, no king claiming and less diss/responses than the previous week as "Control" although still being talked about by many has simmered down just a tad even sliding down to the #3 spot on our countdown this week as Jay-Z's platinum hit "Holy Grail" leap frogs it to get to that #2 spot. Nobody has brought in the weapons of mass destruction it will take to take out Robin Thicke & Company this week so "Blurred Lines" holds on to the top spot for another week. A couple new entries this week from Jay-Z and Big Sean giving them both 2 songs on the countdown and what many people are calling "this summers one hit wonder hit" Rich Homie Quan's "Type of Way" moves up a couple spots to #7 after receiving much radio airplay. Well here it is! The 10 hottest songs in hip-hop this week. It might take some serious work to take out Thicke & the boys but i got my money on Hov & JT. What do you think? Check back to find out! Click on the blue song title link to listen to the song and leave your comments below! see you next week!

The Hip Hop Week in Review

Lets be honest, hip hop is a fast moving business these days, and if you blink you could miss a game changing verse or a new single everyone will be banging and not even know it. Don't worry hip hop fans, the Beat is here for you. Each Friday I will review the week (or so) gone by in the hip hop universe to make sure you hip hop heads stay up to speed. This has been one of the most hectic and exciting week in the rap game probably in years and if you missed any of it, don't make the same mistake twice. Now lets get you caught up.

Kendrick Takes "Control"

If you missed this one, you must have been hiding under a rock much like the rappers who heard their names mentioned in one of the biggest verses that rap has seen in years. And it came form the new king of the west coast, Kendrick Lamar. We have never heard Kendrick spit like this with so much angst and anger and it seems he is coming for everyone in the game and he is naming names. Many rappers tried to send responses toward the young MC mainly because of him proclaiming himself as "the king of New York". You know, because hes from Cali. Now most of these attempts fell well short (looking at you B.O.B) while some were solid but couldn't live up to the quality of Kendrick's bars (see Joell Ortiz) but one man rose to the challenge and gave K-Dot a run for his money. Joe Budden. Budden rode hard for his city over the control beat with 5 and a half minutes of death aimed at Kendrick as well as A$AP Rocky and Meek Mill. Budden defended his territory and while I doubt we will hear anther response from Kendrick at least showed that Kendrick wasn't the only one with quality bars aimed at the competition's head. It looks like the competition may be back in the rap game, and for that we have one man to thank. Thank you Kendrick, we shall never again kill your crazy competitive vibe.

Nothing Was The Same On September 24th

Drake's highly anticipated album "Nothing Was The Same" is most rap fans' pick as the album of the year, and they haven't even heard it yet. That's how huge Drake is doing things nowadays. The hype will have to build for a little longer as the album will be pushed back to September 24th. The project is still very much a mystery with no track list out and no conformation as to which singles will make the cut for the final album tracks. Drake took the game by the throat with his sophomore project and has a chance to prove that he will be the next king of the rap game and the world is watching and waiting for his next move with great tension. Drake nailed it with the title, because if his album is as spectacular as we all expect, he will have the rap game in a choke-hold and indeed, nothing will be the same after September 24th.

Looks Like The Feds Were Watchin'

Good thing 2 Chainz was fresh as hell, because it looks like he was being watched by the feds. Tity Boi was arrested this week after police pulled over his tour bus (he's currently on the AMW tour with T.I. an Lil Wayne) and claimed that they smelled marijuana. Chainz and crew refused to let the cops search the bus and they later came back with a warrant and not only searched the bus, but put the duffel bag boy himself in handcuffs. The dope peddler took to twitter the other day saying his bus gets pulled over in every city by police claiming to smell weed. We've heard the same things happen to other rappers such as Wayne and Waka Flocka so I tend to believe Chainz when he says that. Taheed is clearly a target wherever he goes and cops will take any chance they can get to bust him even if they have to lie about smelling weed coming from the bus. How can you smell marijuana as a bus passes you on the highway? That's crazy talk. The official charge against Chainz was "interfering with police process". I wouldn't expect that charge to stick and sounds like someone had it out for him from the moment he rolled into the city. I think I speak for everyone when I say we needs Chainz out her spittin' bars, not sittin' behind bars. FREE TITY BOI!

Well there we have it, you've been brought up to speed on the weeks biggest stories here on The Beat. Ill be here every Friday to make sure nothing slips through the cracks of hip hop. It was a hell of a week, and we cant even begin to predict what the week ahead of us will hold. Make sure you check back every Friday to make sure you don't miss the hip hop week in review. Be sure to follow me on twitter @DaveyRudolph, and stay fresh as hell everyone, the feds are watchin'!

Top 10 Hip-Hop Countdown - Week of 8/18 - 8/25

WE'RE BAAAAACK! After a little summer break The Beat Blog is back in action with your latest hip-hop news and music as it drops and of course that means the return of The Beat Top 10 Hip-Hop Countdown is included! First off lets take a moment of silence for hip-hop as it was murdered this past week...PAUSE..Kendrick Lamar, Kendrick Lamar, Kendrick Lamar & Kendrick Lamar was all anybody was talking about this week as he officially took the crown of rap (for the time being) and placed it upon his nappy head...lets be honest now that hair needs some work...but his lyrics? NA! He left the rap community stunned this week as a not on album drop from Big Sean included a verse or takeover from Kendrick Lamar that included calling himself the king of new york and later stating he wants to put an end to other rappers careers (J.Cole, Wale, Big Sean, Etc.), with all the buzz "Control" comes in at #2 this week on our countdown as "Blurred Lines" (BY FAR the Song of the Summer) isnt finished basking in the glory just yet. Check out the rest of the Top 10 below (listen to each song by clicking on the link) and leave your comments below! Check back next week to see if Robin and the boys can hold on to that #1 spot!
